Dormouse Footprint Survey Volunteer (Hutton Hill)

We are looking for volunteers to help with undertaking a Dormouse Footprint Tunnel Survey across some of our reserves. Prior experience in dormice/small mammals/ footprints is helpful but not required – training in how to undertake the survey and footprint identification will be provided. All you need is the enthusiasm to go out regularly – and the drive to learn more about our wonderful local wildlife.

The process is simple but fairly labour intensive. Tunnels need to be checked every fortnight for** at least** three consecutive months over the survey season (May-October), in order to check for dormouse activity, to apply fresh ink and replace any cards with footprints on. This can take between 2-4 hours with a small group of surveyors. We would need volunteers to be able to commit to most of these checks. All necessary equipment and guidance would be provided.

The data from this work feeds into long term monitoring of local and national distribution trends.
